Seven hyperscalers have promised households will not pay for AI's electricity.

Under the Ratepayer Protection Pledge proclaimed on 4 March 2026, Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle and xAI commit to build, bring or buy their own generation and pay for grid upgrades. The pledge is voluntary and unenforced.
